Jun 23, 2020No. The top tank should stay completely full and the bottom tank somewhere between the lines. The top tank is part of the pressurized cooling system and the bottom tank is the overflow allowing room for expansion. If you have a leak that needs to be fixed first or you will continue to lose coolant.Cooling System 101? (Experts Please Chime In) - CAMARO6Jun 25, 2019I checked the coolant tanks on my new vehicle. Oct 18, 2020The top tank is part of the pressurized system, like an extension of the radiator. When the coolant gets hot and expands beyond the pressure of the cap it will push a small amount of coolant into the bottom tank and then when it cools and contracts it will pull fluid back out of the bottom tank to replace it.
